Ninnu Chudalani full movie, which released in the year 1997, was directed by Joshi and starred Rajendra Prasad and Geetha. The film is a remake of the 1983 Hindi film ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye’ and narrates the story of a wealthy woman who falls in love with her driver.
The 1997 Tamil remake stars Rajendra Prasad as Rajesh, Geetha as Radha and features music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The movie was released on 16 November 1997. The film was later dubbed into Telugu with the same name and into Hindi as ‘Saath Phere’. The Hindi version featured Aditya Pancholi and Pooja Bhatt in the lead.
The story is of Radha (Geetha), who is the only woman in the house of her grandfather, Gopal Rao (Nagesh). Her grandfather, after his wife’s death, collects enormous wealth. He is so possessive about the money that he does not think at all of getting married again. His son had died on his way to marriage, while his grandson died in an accident. Only his granddaughter remained. Then Gopal Rao starts to think of his granddaughter’s marriage. He finds a suitor for her, Iqbal (Rajendra Prasad), who is an expert driver, but the young lady is not keen on marrying him; she considers him as an ordinary driver.
While doing some shopping one day, Radha meets a young man Ashok (Prakash Raj), whom she likes and they start a friendship. She finds out that Ashok has a daughter from his previous marriage, named Chitra (Kaveri), who is in fact Iqbal’s daughter from a previous marriage and who had been brought up by her mother after the death of her father in an accident. Radha does not know that Iqbal is her dad’s driver, but she finds out later.
Iqbal learns about the relationship between Ashok and Radha and becomes mentally disturbed. When Radha finds out about her dad’s short temper, she decides to convince him to accept the relationship of Ashok and Chitra. The rest of the film deals with how things turn out in their lives.The soundtrack was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The lyrics were written by Vaali, Pulamaipithan, Gangai Amaran, Indira Menon & Kamakodiyan. Playback singers are S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, K. S. Chithra, Mano, Nithyasree Mahadevan & Sujatha.
